Thekkady & Periyar — FAQ

Is wildlife sighting guaranteed on the Periyar boat safari?

No sighting is guaranteed on any wildlife safari, but elephants, sambar deer, wild boar and a wide range of birdlife are commonly seen from the boat; early morning slots generally have better activity.

How many days should I plan for Thekkady?

One full day covers the boat safari and a spice plantation walk comfortably; add a second day if you want to include a guided trek or bamboo rafting inside the sanctuary.

Do I need to book the Periyar boat safari in advance?

Yes, especially in peak season (December–March) — boat slots are limited and run by the Forest Department, so we book these in advance as part of your itinerary.
